Arcom is a leader in the development of drop noise devices designed to selectively "clean up" the reverse path. The WHP filter only passes the part of the spectrum where transmission over the reverse path is desired and removes other portions of the return path to eliminate undesirable noise. Various custom versions are available to match the terminal equipment used in the home.

Step Attenuator

Step attenuators provide a universal non-application specific solution to return path noise problems. Various levels of fixed attenuation below the required cutoff frequency are available, with minimal insertion loss at frequencies above the cutoff. Units are typically fitted between the multi-tap output port and the subscriber drop. This provides wide band noise suppression of all the return path frequencies. Arcom step attenuators offer several advantages over traditional high-pass or windowed filters. The step attenuator value is selected to complement the multi-tap value and system design, thus balancing the return path attenuation to a predetermined value. This wide-band approach reduces the overall noise level and substantially improves the subscriber drop impedance match. Versions are available with forward and/or reverse slope as well as power passing capabilities.

AHP High-Pass Filters

AHP high-pass filters reject the low-frequency spectrum but have minimal
insertion loss at frequencies above the cut-off. These filters are used to
eliminate or restrict access to sub-band return frequencies. Many versions
are available for different frequency splits and different television
standards.

Cable Equivalent

Some of the new architectures being used in modern HFC cable systems cause a somewhat unusual problem of excessive tap port level. The Arcom CEQ series of equalizer helps this problem by introducing cable equivalent loss.
